Community to have their say on Reconciliation

The City of Ballarat's draft Reconciliation Action Plan is now available for public comment.

The draft plan was adopted at an Ordinary Meeting of Ballarat City Council last night (28/09).

Developed in consultation with Council's Koorie Engagement Action Group and members of the region's Aboriginal community, the plan acknowledges the Wathaurung people as the traditional custodians of the land on which our community lives.

Ballarat Mayor and Co-Chair of the KEAG committee Craig Fletcher said the draft plan recognises the City of Ballarat's commitment to reconciliation.

"The plan will provide Council and the broader community with a clear understanding of Council's commitment to the local Aboriginal community.

"It will encourage a greater understanding, acknowledgement, respect, inclusion of and opportunities for the Aboriginal people of this region."

Council is seeking feedback on the 2011 - 2013 drafted plan, and welcomes any comments via the online form available on Council's website

Public feedback is required by Thursday 13 October.
